Aden’s Governor, PEC and Altaaqa Global Inaugurates 54 MW Power Plant

The 54 MW power plant will supply up to 150,000 customers in Yemen which will benefit more than half a million people in the province of Aden. Altaaqa Global hired 95% of the total employees from Yemen and able to deliver the project on time. This is one of the great success stories of doing synergy between the government, local community and private company in the power industry.


Aden, Yemen – Altaaqa Global Cat Rental Power, a leading global power solutions provider, has successfully installed 54 MW power plant in the province of Aden, Yemen. The Governor and Public Electricity Corporation (PEC) officials, together with various government officials and the Executives of Altaaqa Global inaugurated the power plant that will provide up to 15% of the province summer electricity demand.



Governor Wahid Ali Rashid expressed deep gratitude to the President, His Excellency Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi for the great solution to the demands and needs of the governorate of Aden, he said “the President of the Republic of Yemen has spent a lot of time and efforts to make this power plant into reality. The President has personally been involved in providing the best solutions for electricity crisis and urgently responded to address the situation of electricity.” The Governor appealed to the citizens of Aden to use the electricity wisely and be efficient in consuming energy to ensure a sustainable energy and avoid electric outages.

According to Engineer Khalil Abdul-Malik, Director General of Public Electricity Corporation (PEC), “This is the fastest power plant ever built in the history of Yemen. It only took us 23 days from the day that we have signed the contract until the day that we have supplied electricity. This is a record breaking power project. The government, PEC and Altaaqa Global has worked diligently together to deliver electricity to the province of Aden.” He pointed out that “this power plant will alleviate the suffering of the citizens due to power outages and reduce the power deficit.”  

“With this new power plant, 95% of the workforce is local Yemeni engineers and the remaining 5% are from Altaaqa Global Caterpillar.” According to Steven Meyrick, Managing Director of Altaaqa Global, “We are committed to helping our immediate environs through a sustainable business model by creating employment opportunities in the areas where we operate. By hiring local talents in Yemen, we are proud to serve the community and contribute to their social lives. We have also invested a significant amount of resources to train the Yemeni workforce to ensure that our operation is still on its optimum level. In the end, we have passed on our technical know-how to the local workforce while maintaining our operational standards and processes. We will surely replicate the same process of hiring local people in other countries that we are planning to pursue in the future.”

“Because of the successful collaboration between the Altaaqa Global workforce and the local Yemeni team, the power plants of 11kV and 33kV installation were completed as per schedule.” According to Peter den Boogert, GM of Business Development of Altaaqa Global, “Even during summer when it can reach up to 38 degrees Celsius, and during Ramadan when we are only able to work for a short period of time, we were able to complete the power project due to our strong operational and streamlined business process.”

Aden’s Governor, PEC and Altaaqa Global Inaugurates Power Plant

Altaaqa Global strives to meet the electricity needs of every Yemeni citizen as envisioned by The President, His Excellency Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi. The 54 MW temporary power plant can supply up to 150,000 homes with electricity, benefiting more than half people in the city of Aden. Also present at the inauguration were various officials from Public Electricity Corporation (PEC) and other government and non-governmental officials.

On top of the swift installation and commissioning, Billy Wharton, Director of Operations of Altaaqa Global, mentioned, “Our project in Aden is the most advanced in the power industry. This is also the most advanced Caterpillar electric power protection system in the world. Le Gouverneur d'Aden inaugure une centrale avec Altaaqa Global et PEC

Altaaqa Global œuvre à satisfaire les besoins en électricité de tous les citoyens du Yémen, conformément au souhait de leur Président, Son excellence Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi. Cette centrale temporaire de 54 MW peut alimenter jusqu'à 150 000 personnes, soit plus de la moitié des habitants d'Aden. De nombreuses personnalités étaient présentes à son inauguration, parmi lesquelles des représentants de PEC (la compagnie publique d'électricité) et divers représentants officiels gouvernementaux et non-gouvernementaux.


Aden, Yémen – AltaaqaGlobal, leader mondial des prestataires en solutions énergétiques, a installé avec succès une centrale électrique temporaire de 54 MW à Aden, au Yémen. Son excellence Wahid Ali Rashid, Gouverneur d’Aden, accompagné M. Khalil Abdul-Malik, ingénieur et directeur général de PEC (Public Electricity Corporation) et de plusieurs cadres d'Altaaqa Global ont inauguré cette  centrale électrique temporaire capable de fournir de l'électricité à plus de 150 000 usagers du Yémen.

L'inauguration de la centrale : Son excellence Wahid Ali Rashid, Gouverneur d'Aden, accompagné de M. Khalil Abdul-Malik, ingénieur et directeur général de PEC (Public Electricity Corporation), de Steven Meyrick, directeur général d'Altaaqa Global et de représentants de PEC, du gouvernement d'Aden et d'Altaaqa Global.

« Les employés de cette nouvelle centrale sont yéménites à 95 %, les 5 % restants étant des personnels d'Altaaqa Global Caterpillar. » Steven Meyrick, directeur général d'Altaaqa Global déclare : « Nous avons à cœur d'impliquer notre environnement immédiat dans un business model durable en créant de l'emploi dans les régions où nous opérons. En embauchant les talents locaux du Yémen, nous avons la fierté de servir cette communauté et de participer à la vie de cette société. Nous avons également investi beaucoup de ressources pour former la main-d'œuvre yéménite, afin que l'exploitation soit toujours réalisée à un niveau optimal. Pour finir, nous avons transmis notre savoir-faire technique à la main d'œuvre locale tout en préservant notre niveau de standards opérationnels et de processus. Nous répéterons certainement cette démarche d'emploi local dans les autres pays où nous comptons opérer prochainement. »

« Grâce à la collaboration fructueuse entre les salariés d'Altaaqa Global et les équipes locales, la première et la deuxième phase de l'installation ont été accomplies à l'échéance prévue. » Peter den Boogert, directeur général du développement commercial d'Altaaqa Global, renchérit ainsi : « Même en plein été, quand la température peut atteindre 38 degrés, ou pendant le Ramadan où l'on ne peut travailler que pendant une courte période, nous avons pu réaliser notre projet dans les délais impartis, et cela grâce à nos procédés excellents et très rationalisés. »

Billy Wharton, Directeur opérationnel d'Altaaqa Global et chargé de la supervision de l'installation et de la mise en service mentionne également : « Notre projet à Aden est le plus évolué de tout le secteur de l'énergie. Nous sommes la seule entreprise du Moyen-Orient à utiliser un système de protection intégré qui permet de basculer du réseau général à l'île en quelques minutes. C'est également le système de protection électrique Caterpillar le plus évolué au monde. Notre système de contrôle offre la solution la plus souple pour prendre en charge la génération des puissances de base, intermédiaire, de pic ou de veille. Que le mode requis soit le mode autonome/île, le mode réseau ou une combinaison de tous les modes opérationnels, nous pouvons passer de l'un à l'autre en appuyant simplement sur un bouton. »

El Gobernador de Aden, PEC y Altaaqa Global inaugura una planta energética

Altaaqa Global se esfuerza por satisfacer las necesidades de electricidad de cada ciudadano yemení según visualizó el presidente, Su Excelencia Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi. La planta energética temporal de 54 MW puede dar suministro eléctrico hasta a 150.000 hogares, beneficiando a más de la mitad de los habitantes de la ciudad de Aden. En la inauguración también estuvieron presentes varios funcionarios de  Public Electricity Corporation (PEC) y otros directivos gubernamentales y no gubernamentales.


Aden, Yemen – Altaaqa Global, un proveedor de soluciones energéticas líder global, ha instalado con éxito una planta energética temporal de 54 MW en Aden, Yemen. Su Excelencia Wahid Ali Rashid, Gobernador de Aden y el ingeniero Engineer Khalil Abdul-Malik, Director General de Public Electricity Corporation (PEC) junto a los ejecutivos de Altaaqa Global inauguraron la planta energética temporal que puede proporcionar electricidad a 150.000 hogares en Yemen.

“En esta nueva planta energética, el 95% de la mano de obra son ingenieros yemeníes locales y el 5% restante son de Altaaqa Global Caterpillar.” Según Steven Meyrick, Director gerente de Altaaqa Global, “Nos comprometemos a ayudar a nuestro entorno inmediato mediante un modelo de negocios sostenible creando oportunidades de empleo en las zonas en las que operamos. Al contratar talentos locales en Yemen, nos enorgullecemos de dar servicio a la comunidad y contribuir a sus vidas sociales. También hemos invertido una cantidad significativa de recursos en formar a la mano de obra yemení para asegurarnos de que nuestra operación siga en su nivel óptimo. Al final, hemos pasado nuestros conocimientos técnicos a la mano de obra local y hemos mantenido a la vez nuestros estándares y procesos operativos. Con certeza repetiremos el mismo proceso de contratar personal local en otros países en los que estamos planificando operar en el futuro.”

“Debido a la exitosa colaboración entre el personal de Altaaqa Global y el equipo local yemení, la instalación de la planta energética se finalizó según lo previsto.” Según Peter den Boogert, Director general de desarrollo de negocios de Altaaqa Global, “Incluso durante el verano, cuando se pueden alcanzar temperaturas de 38 grados, y durante el Ramadán, cuando solo podemos trabajar durante un periodo corto de tiempo, pudimos finalizar el proyecto energético a tiempo debido a nuestros sólidos procesos de negocios operativos y racionalizados.”

Además de la rápida instalación y puesta en marcha, Billy Wharton, Director de operaciones de Altaaqa Global, comentó: “Nuestro proyecto en Aden es el más avanzado del sector energético. Somos la única empresa en Oriente Medio que ha utilizado un sistema de protección de control integrado que puede pasar de  red a isla a red solo en unos minutos.
